MFM tester Georgina found this crib very simple to assemble and the instructions were clear, making it a quick and easy build. It also folds down into an extremely compact size and comes with a convenient bag for travel. Easy to assemble Bedside cribs are generally simple to set up and are usually on the smaller side to are able to be placed neatly beside your bed. They are also lighter, making them more portable. Georgina who was one of MFM's home testers, said that the Maxi-Cosi Lora was “super easy to assemble with clear instructions and zips that are easy to open.” The crib can be used as a portable travel crib and comes with a convenient bag. It has multiple mesh windows that allow for ventilation and the adjustable height ensures it can fit on any mattress. Some bedside cribs feature the option of a side panel that can be removed to allow you to easily access your baby without getting out of bed. This is a great option for mothers who are breastfeeding or those who want to be close to their child during the night, but don't want to take the risk of co-sleeping. Many models come with a built-in function that allows you to rock your baby. This can be a relaxing experience for your baby and help them sleep. Some cribs have a recline position that can be helpful in the case of reflux or colic. These should only be used under supervision. The Graco Play Yard is also known as a Pack and Play is a popular choice. It was shortlisted for the 2022 Mother&Baby Award. Cosy and cozy You can watch your child from the in the comfort of your bed using the bedside crib. It's a great option for a mom who is recovering from a c-section, because you can easily pull baby up to you for night feeds or nappy changes without having to get out of bed. The most comfortable cribs come with mesh sides that allow you to see your baby through. Some cribs let you lower the barrier completely. This allows you to sleep with your baby without any risk. It's also super-easy to assemble and Georgina, who took part in our MFM tests was able to put it together quickly and didn't need to look up the instructions. It's also a fantastic travel cot. It folds flat and easily fits into a bag. The Next2me Magic, shortlisted for Best Cot, Crib, or Moses Basket in the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards, has a larger size, yet it's compact and easy to attach to your bed. Georgina found it easy to put together, however she was not convinced that the zips could have been more clearly explained on the instruction sheet. Easy to clean If you're looking at bedside cribs and travel cots be sure to look for models that have a removable mattress cover that can be machine-washed. This will keep it clean and free of dribbles leaky diapers, and spit-up. It is also recommended to choose one that is easily disassembled so you can clean and sanitise every nook and cranny. This is crucial, as it will ensure that all dirt and germs have been removed. It is also important to ensure that the sides of the crib are securely attached, so there aren't any gaps or spaces in which your child could slide down or become trapped. Aside from being easy to clean, you'll need a crib for your bed that is a comfortable place for your baby and will fit comfortably into your bed. This is particularly important if you are using a bedside crib to facilitate co-sleeping. They are designed to be attached securely to the side of the parent's bed, allowing parents to easily access their baby throughout the night for feeding and comforting while still ensuring separate sleeping areas. This is the most current standard, which introduces more stringent requirements to ensure safe and effective sleep solutions. Multi-faceted The bedside crib, or co-sleeping mattress as it's sometimes called is attached to the bed so that you can reach your baby easily during the night without leaving your sleeping space. They can also be used as standalone cribs during the daytime. They usually have a side panel which can be adjusted so that you can feel your baby's hand and see him. Some cribs allow you to put the side panel down at night. This allows you to be close and comfortable with your baby, while minimising the risk of sharing the bed. Some cribs will also convert into a travel cot or include additional features such as tilting, rocking (use with caution, be sure to speak to your GP about this) or changing into an older baby cot or playpen.
